More than 100 people in the premises of the Association of Polish Architects, SARP, in Warsaw took part in a conference “Environmentally Harmonious Cities. Coping with urbanisation and climate change” organised jointly on October 10th by the UN-HABITAT Warsaw Office and the Association. The event constituted a main element of the Polish celebrations of World Habitat Day 2008 and was held under the patronage of Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Environment.
On Monday, October 6th in Luanda, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT Anna K. Tibaijuka together with Angolan President Jos Eduardo dos Santos and senior officials of his government participated in the global celebration of World Habitat Day 2008.
Many of the world's most pressing challenges - poverty, natural disasters, escalating prices for food and fuel - have important links with rapid urbanization.
